Easiest Weekend Breakfast for Guests or Home

The EASIEST delicious weekend breakfast. You can make this for company or just your family. Only 2 minutes prep!This easy, special weekend breakfast recipe goes by a lot of different names.  Even in my own house, where it is frequently baked, we don’t know what to call it!

Hootenanny?

Oven Pancake?

Dutch Baby?

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and this confection, no matter what you call it, is always easy and always delicious.

Before you get started, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Farenheit and thoroughly grease a 9 x 13″ pan.  I always use glass.  And the hootenanny usually sticks to it.

That’s the one problem with this dish.  The high egg content makes it stick to the pan.

I’ve solved this by greasing the pan with butter and then spraying it with a little cooking spray.  Overkill?  No.

Let’s get baking!

The Dutch Baby/Hootenanny starts where all things delicious begin: with butter.

Melt 6 Tablespoons of butter.  

Bring out the blender

Yep, pull out your blender! You can use that puppy for more than green smoothies and margaritas…ok, I never make margaritas, more like milk shakes… Actually, this recipe and crepes are what I use my blender for most often.

Pour 1 Cup of milk into the blender.  (I just use the measurement on the blender.)

Add 6 eggs.  Yes, that’s a lot of eggs.  It means you can eat this and not be falling apart from low-blood sugar in an hour.

Throw in:

1 Cup of Flour

1 teaspoon of vanilla

1/3 cup of sugar (or less if you prefer)

Blend up all the ingredients EXCEPT the butter.

 

Pour the blended batter into the greased pan.  Then, pour the melted butter right on top.  That’s it.

Today when we made this, my 2-year-old sat on the counter “helping” me.  He reached for a spoon. “Stir?”

No, Baby, we don’t stir the butter in.  I know, its weird.  Trust me on this one.
Bake at 400 degrees Farenheit for 20 minutes.

Be sure there’s enough space for it to puff up a lot and not hit another rack or the oven top.  It will blow up like a souffle!

In this photo it has already collapsed a little bit.  It will do that.  It’s supposed to.

Cut into 6 pieces and serve with powdered sugar.

Or lingonberry jam.

Or cranberry sauce.

Or lemon juice.

Or maple syrup.

Whatever suits your fancy!

We often add a side of bacon…which you can also get just perfect by baking at 400 for 20 minutes, so… it’s pretty much meant to be.

Hootenanny/Dutch Baby

Serves: 6 servings
This incredibly easy recipe feels special enough for company or holidays but it’s simple enough for anyone to make! Only 2 minutes prep time and 20 minutes in the oven.
Ingredients
  • 1 C Milk
  • 1 C flour
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 C sugar
  • 6 Tbs vanilla (plus more for greasing the pan)
  • Optional toppings:
  • powdered sugar
  • maple syrup
  • lingonberries
  • cranberry sauce
  • Nutella
  • Fresh squeezed lemon juice
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Thoroughly grease 13×9″ baking dish. I grease with butter and then spray with cooking spray.
  3. Put all ingredients EXCEPT BUTTER into a blender. Blend milk, flour, eggs, vanilla and sugar.
  4. Melt butter.
  5. Pour blended batter into greased baking dish. Pour melted butter on top. Do not stir.
  6. Bake at 400 for 20 minutes.
  7. Serve with desired toppings.
